In recognition for one week of problem free computer operation, I purchased for my computer a Soundblaster Audigy Live! OEM soundcard. I am now hooking it up to my small JVC stereo, the type that looks like a cube with a CD player on top and half decent fidelity for such a system.

My goal is to load up my hard drive with allot of music that I can run as a jukebox while I work creating programs for my client. And in the process I can...test the condition of the hard drive. Yeh, thats it! A good surface test of the hard drive. I think this is a worthwhile goal. ;-)

Anyone know of software that can help me with this goal? Does this soundcard have onboard MP3 decoding?

I also purchased a better heat sink and fan combo for the CPU. This one looks exactly like hte other one I had except the fins are thinner, and it has a copper core. Also there are almost twice the number of blades to the fan. The previous heat sink fan unit kept the temperature at about 115 F when the CPU was exersized. This one keeps the temperature at a rock solid 104 F. What a difference this has made! The thing did set me back $20.

PS: If my computer is really good to me for another week, I may clean off the monitor, blow out the accumulated dust in the case, and purchase a nice Altec Lansing surround sound speaker system to go with the audio card, one that has a nice subwoofer. And I may even rent a DVD movie with some sound impact to test the system out. I do know how to treat me computer well! ;-)
