"Also, how are people trying to help third world countries? Are they giving them insurance, Sees candy or Gillette razors to shave or are they giving the kids portable, cheap, laptops with wireless connectivity that operate on the sun or hand cranking? Lam (and some of my favorite GARP stocks) make the picks and shovels that makes this technology possible."

This is such a non-sequitur that I am almost speechless. Read my lips: it does not matter if Lam or AMAT or whoever makes the shovels. It's not even clear anyone needs that many better shovels. There are probably couple (5? 10?) superfabs right now that buy topline Lam or AMAT tools. Growth? What growth? Most of the chips for "portable, cheap, laptops" (BTW, this Negroponte's wet dream is a total idiocy, but let's not stray off topic) are elcheapo low complexity chips build in whatever old factories you want.

OK, but this is not semi equipment thread, so perhaps we should end this OT.
