Computer Times. Intel Corp.[NASDAQ:INTC] recently earmarked PhP8.1 million
(US$312,000) for its Corporate Academic Relations Program in the
Philippines.
Intel President and COO Craig Barrett, during his Philippine visit in June,
said the program will provide computer laboratories at the Microprocessor
Instructional Laboratory of the University of the Philippines (UP), the
Microelectronics Research Laboratory of De La Salle University (DLSU), and
the Industrial Electronics Laboratory of the Dualtech Training Center.
Intel's education initiative also covers 12 annual scholarships for four
engineering and eight technology students, Newsbytes learned. The 12 annual
scholarships will reportedly cover tuition fees, books, and study-related
expenses.
"Intel is committed to technology excellence with Philippine universities.
The grants and scholarships Intel is making today are designed to help
students take on the challenges of moving the Philippine IT industry into
the future," Barrett asserted.
Secretary William Padolina of the Department of Science and Technology
commended Intel for its efforts to help the Philippines "equip its
technology specialists and professionals of the future with the best
knowledge and skills available."
