In 1999 I was strictly retail, but was one of Schwab Canada's largest retail account on the short side. I've got boxes and boxes of confirmations showing both pain and gain.

Hey I get to throw them out in 2 more years (7 year rule) yeah!

Sure I could have jacked up returns far more if I'd just focused on taking money from the long side then, but I had firm opinions on how it was going to end and could not set them aside. Got pretty good at detecting failed charts in the process though.

Clearly that was useful to me from 2000 on...

Ive no problem admitting that I suffered from never ending bearishness in 99. Oddly, by the time the market finally cracked, I'd moved past that. Pretty anticlimatic once it happened. These days I have no trouble whatsoever putting opinion aside when it needs to be and doing what makes sense.

Today? I'm in the biz as well, newsletters, swing trade and trader ed. I prefer to keep that low key and don't talk about it here.
