Free trade costs Democratic votes [David Freddoso]

Today's editorial on the situation in Colombia notes Congress's failure to pass the Colombian Free Trade Agreement. The reason for this failure is simple and pathetic:

<<< We’re now deeper into an election year in which the Democrats have decided that denouncing free trade is good for them in swing states. >>>

80 percent of the Ohio Democrats who voted last night told exit pollsters that free trade is harmful. Only 10 percent believe in the benefits of trade. Even in Texas, many of whose cities depend on international trade for their economic survival, fewer than one in four Democratic primary voters considered free trade to be beneficial, with 57 percent considering it harmful. This last week was a particularly inopportune time for Obama to be caught speaking out of both sides of his mouth on NAFTA.
