Nor in mine. That is definitely NOT the way it was. People had all sorts of crazy schemes for getting, from shooting off an unneeded toe (he didn't do it, but threatened to) to losing weight (it worked) to adamantly declaring himself to be gay (it worked) or crazy (like Klinger, it didn't work, but he didn't go to Vietnam). As well as the usual routes that you mention.

I got lucky and got a high lottery number.
