I have been away for a few days, but do want to acknowledge, and thank everyone for all of the suggestions which I will try and let all of you kind people know what worked.

I've done the simple stuff so far with no noticeable change; defrag, scan disk, and a virus scan. next I'll review the startups in the system tray.
