Here is how we liberals approach education. This is a letter from my kids. The names were changed to protect the innocent.

Hi loved ones of ,

As you know Jane has entered kindergarten and is doing splendidly. Her parents have now entered fund-raising hell. Evidently public school simply means that a long time ago they built some schools. Now we the parents (and by proxy grandparents, aunts, and uncles) raise money to pay for the teachers, supplies, and pretty much everything that goes IN the school. In any case, we will be coming to you with hat in hand several times a year for the next... 16 years (accounting for Dick). God help us all.

So... on Oct 3 Jane will be doing something called the "Tour de Ladd" where they close down the streets around her school and let the kids tear around the block on their bikes while cheered on by their amateur - but extremely rabid - biker parents. The course is 0.1miles and Jane will have a short 15 minutes. She can be sponsored by the lap or by a single contribution. No contribution is too small - seriously. Let us know if you'd like to sponsor her by Sept 28 – but be careful we took the training wheels off more than 3 months ago and she can ride. No pressure either way, you'll have (lots of) other opportunities...

John and Julie

We need to rebuild our public schools and make them strong again.
