My beliefs, huh? I believe in God, in the existence of good and evil, and in the capacity of human beings to perceive it. Most other things I'm uncertain about. (Though there are a few things some people are sure of that I recognize as HS and as you might be able to tell I don't mind saying so. The H is for horse BTW.) I don't know or care how I should be classified religiously. Uncertainty doesn't bother me. If God wants me to know THE TRUTH about everything, he'll let me know.
I come from a very religious background. Was at our Baptist church every Sunday morning and night and every Wednesday night in my youth. I saw there a lot there that was very good and a lot that was not good at all. Religion in general, and Christianity in particular, is different for different people. For many, probably for most, religion is a good thing which provides a vast amount of peace and contentment during difficult times, encourages the development of virtues, and discourages vice. (Yet I've seen up close that the religious have no monopoly on virtue.) For others, religion seems to be a means for expressing negative psychological drives - egoism, the need to feel special, power-seeking, resentment, the need to despise others, etc.
Yes, I've studied Christianity and the Bible a lot. But then I've also studied a lot of other things too. Hope this is informative enough for you. |
