rudedog...this link includes the paragraph I have pasted here. Can you speculate what CPQ will do with Alta Vista. I see At Home taking off like a rocket simply because they can be identified individually as a company whose stock is publicly traded. My guess is if At Home was wholly owned by CPQ you would not see any change in CPQ stock price. If EP and management would really like to see shareholder appreciation AV should probably be traded as a single entity. In addition if AV is like the other internet companies they are not making a dime and as such only provide a drag on earnings of the parent. It looks to me like a no brainier and management should take advantage of the Internet phenomena while it lasts.

Alta Vista expands content

Compaq Computer Corporation's (CPQ) Alta Vista
search service will add financial news and information
from Individual Investor Group Inc. (INDI) to its home
page offerings. Chief executive officer Jonathan
Steinberg called the deal "our most significant
relationship to date because of Alta Vista's reach, and
(it) has the most potential to drive revenue and traffic"
to Individual Investor's own Web site
(www.iionline.com). The Alta Vista pact is the
publishing company's tenth such content arrangement in
the past several months.
