GSM is and always has been 100% digital both on the core network side as well as the access network side. GSM was born digital. By contrast IS-54 TDMA, IS-136 TDMA and IS-95 cdma were built on an analog platform of sand. Each uses a born analog (ANSI-41) core network. That is just one of the reasons that QCDMA sucks hind tit relative to technology adoption by major carriers. - Eric -
