Don't feel bad. The system is kept more complicated than it needs to be given current technology for the reasons I've discussed in prior posts.

Keep retail investors ignorant and the big money players have the capability of grabbing their funds more easily. Fortunately, the internet has been an equalizer and there has been progress as we're seeing in the posts that have been placed here recently.

We've seen the exposure of a class action firm that essentially ambulance chased to find plaintiffs in order to exacerbate the problems of troubled companies. Typically shareholders got very little while the lawyers got millions. This firm may very well have been working with the basher community and/or with hedge fund posters back at the end of the internet bubble.

Overstock gets to go forward with its case.

Gradually increasing enforcement and regulatory actions by the SEC and state regulators, as well as criminal "issues", with respect to stock lending for shorting, hedge funds under fire for a multitude of "issues," and brokers/MM firms getting some "slaps on the wrists" that may gradually escalate into real penalties commensurate with the violations of Reg Sho and other industry rules.

It's not a total revamp of the industry and trading as needed, but it represents some starting steps.
