People were fantasizing about a Clarify type rebound in Vantive. there is a major difference. Clarify had some execution shortcomings and weak leadership from a sales and marketing perspective. The "remedy" was pretty simple. Vantive made a massive strategic error in trying to outgun sebl in sfa . This is difficult to recover from in an environment where you have two primary competitors gaining momentum. Now they put in a chief information officer and CEO? Now, the Company should be sold, but there were no takers last year. The amazing thing is, how could the CFO have thought that earnings would be flat in a sequentially down revenue quarter? It seems that leadership is weak across the board at Vantive. TD
