Al, I see what you mean now. But the "incumbency mentality" has usually been Intel's domain. The old slogan, "No one got fired for choosing IBM" has now turned into "No one got fired for choosing Intel."

Yes, but you have to be aware that this is changing. It certainly did change for IBM...i know first hand, i worked there for many years.

I don't see that slogan turning into "No one got fired for choosing AMD." They won market share with technical superiority, but unlike Intel, AMD has to maintain the technical superiority because it's just as easy for customers to switch back.

Frankly Intel will have to earn its stripes back...the last few years have been less than lackluster on the technical side.
