I have to wonder whether this threads conversation is based on technology issues or on investment issues. I center my criticism on Apple based on their return on investment which in the last year is about as abysmal as any out there. I have used the Mac, the Sun, the Indy, the Apollo, and just about every other computer out there. Hell, I even spent time on the old Ataris back in the early 80s. Most businesses are involved with word processing, database retrieval/entry, accounting and other end user tasks. Those people can use and do use Windows very efficiently. So far, I don't doubt that Mac probably is a better technology. But the road is littered with the dead bodies of technology leaders. When investing in technology issues one might want to decide if they are going to invest using technology as their motive, ROI or both (if you can find this best of both worlds). Personally if I had to choose between tech and ROI I know which one is going to win out everytime. It is absolutely fascintating that as the years go by the many of the Apple faithful still believe they can take on MS and beat them. Without government intervention it is and will continue to be impossible. Gates is the Rockefeller of our generation and just as with John D. the only way to slow down the juggernaut is through anti-trust. Until then there's no question which company is going to reward shareholders lucratively.
