I think cleaning up Iraq, as you put it, would be so expensive we won't do it. The US population won't tolerate the expenditure- and why should they? They were sold a bad bill of goods by folks who thought we'd be drawing down the troops and mopping up by 2003. Talk about a pipe dream. I don't think you can clean Iraq up with the loss of public faith in the Iraqi adventure.

I think the only question now is how much we can distance ourselves from the coming debacle in Iraq. As I've said for a long time I think we should pray the Iraqis ask us to leave, and then we should Just Do It.
