Hi Harry, Off topic - cyclists.
>>If memory serves my right a Kevin Walsh finished in the top 3 in the RAAM a few years back, is that you? I believe he was originally from New Zealand and had a titanium rod in his leg because of a car accident. He was also an aeronautical engineer.<<

Believe it or not, I'm not this Kevin Walsh. It is amazing that you bring this up. Awhile back, someone else told me of another kw who was an aero engineer and an ultra cyclist. I said "NO WAY! - Can't be!". I never followed up on this and soon forgot about it. Now that you bring it up, I'll have to try to get more info on this kw.

>>It is great to see a competitive tour again after the domination of the Miguel Indurian era.<<

I actually enjoyed watching Miguel dominate the Tour. I was cheering him on to win his 6th in a row. I was bummed when he announced his retirement. I think it was because of his style, attitude, and size that had me rooting for him. He's the same size I am - 6'2"; 170 lbs. As you know, he was a giant in the peloton. The little Marco Pantani's of the world (horse jockey size) have a huge advantage in the steep mountain stages.

>> Jan Ullrich really needs to learn how to decend though.<<
You got that right. He looks like me going down a steep descent. I haven't recovered my descending confidence after I couldn't slow down for a corner going down a steep grade. I wound up tumbling off the edge of the road. Thigh-high sage brush stopped my fall about 10 feet down the mountain. I got scraped up pretty good. I was very fortunate that I was able to ride back to a friends house. Unfortunately, that was 4 days before the '96 RAAM qualifier which I was training all year for. I missed it again this year because of my knee. :-((

Paris-Brest-Paris...That would be a thrill to do - maybe when the kids are out of the house.

Take care,
The original kw (I think)
