Poland's NASK Implements Network Management Solution Based On Micromuse's Netcool SuiteEnd-to-End Monitoring Software Helps Provide Realtime Status Views of Voice and Data Network Backbones SAN FRANCISCO, Jun 19, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Micromuse Inc. (Nasdaq: MUSE chart, msgs), the leading provider of realtime fault management and service assurance software, today announced that NASK (Research and Academic Computer Network) has implemented a network management solution based on Micromuse's flagship Netcool(R)/OMNIbus(TM) application. NASK is utilizing the software solution to consolidate realtime status information from throughout its network infrastructure, enabling it to maintain the uptime of its value-added services. NASK is a leading Polish Internet operator offering high-speed Internet access as well as corporate networks of national and international scope and network security solutions.
NASK has been operating in the Polish data communications market since 1991 and today provides service to more than 600 customers, including large enterprises such as Ericsson, Nestle Polska, Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa and a number of academic, government and scientific institutions. It was the first telecommunications company to build a Wide Area Network across Poland and is the first Polish Internet service provider.
"We are dedicated to expanding and refurbishing our network to improve the quality and variety of the services we offer and we are continually enhancing our ability to cooperate with the world's leading telecommunications operators," said Krzysztof Silicki, Technical Director at NASK. "With that in mind, we only considered deploying the most optimal service management solution for our networks. The Netcool-based software enhances our existing architecture and end-to-end assurance of the availability of our services."
After an analysis of available technologies, NASK selected a comprehensive end-to-end network management solution based on Micromuse's Netcool(R) /OMNIbus(TM) application. By collecting and consolidating alarms from across NASK's Frame Relay and ATM infrastructure, the Netcool solution helps network operators to better manage network availability by delivering realtime status data on virtually every underlying component of the network. The underlying components of the network include Cisco equipment and applications such as HP OpenView and Agilent/OSI NetExpert.
"NASK requested a fault management solution that could integrate closely with existing network applications yet could scale as its networks grow," said Lou Steinberg, Micromuse's Senior Vice President Marketing & Market Development. "To maintain its high level of customer satisfaction, NASK also required a solution that would differentiate its service and maintain a superior level of network uptime. The Netcool(R)-based solution provides NASK's network operators with a single-screen view of the status of devices and environments throughout the network infrastructure - in realtime. This helps them to effectively and efficiently resolve problems before they lead to service outages."
NCR Poland, a leading solution provider in the telecommunications and Internet Service Provider market, was responsible for completing the implementation.
About the Netcool(R) Suite

Fault data is rapidly processed and filtered by the Netcool ObjectServer(TM), an in-memory database. The Netcool suite helps operators to build views of service availability in realtime, helping them manage networks more efficiently. Because it is scalable and deploys rapidly, the Netcool suite helps service providers expand their networks as their markets grow.
