The conflict here is the assumption that the information is universally distributed. All the models are doomed except for a very short run. You yourself are quoting Michael Murphy.He was caught several times losing his shirt for shorting companies. His analyses of many biotech companies like XOMA etc. were sham. If you look at the total number of owners ( not the stock issues) for many of the companies it is rather small as compared to the big blue chips. In many of the NASD stocks the control comes from a small % investors who own the large blocks. The neural network concepts would not work. If the much ballyhooed Buffett decides to dump Berkshire-Hathaway it will tumble too.
