re: What exactly do you expect?
Don't know "exactly", as I've said before, too many moving parts in the region. But you've got tribal, ethnic and religious animosity sitting on top of the world's 2nd largest oil reserves... which are increasing precious. You have neighboring states with various levels of craziness. There are very few reasons to think Iraq will settle down anytime in the near future.
re: You're kidding, right? The current situation in Iraq is far from "the worst" possible outcome of the invasion.
Worse than anyone expected going in, or we wouldn't have done it. $300Billion and 3 years later we are in a quagmire with few friends on either side, with our soldiers getting picked off one by one, and sectarian violence getting worse every day. Most of the world hates us, and if, God forbid, we had to use our military in a real conflict, they would be unavailable.
Remember the promises? $50Billion tops, maybe six months, welcomed as great hero's, reconstruction paid for by Iraqi oil? You still drinking the kool aid? |
