Sense,you missed the boat and situation with this comment... "So the use is a backhanded reference to thievery, and with it all of the other racially defined elements of questionable morality that result from racists applying those sorts of labels to identify the entire race with the slur. FWIW, if you grew up down south. you know for a fact that it isn't a fabrication that people steal watermelons. " i did grow up down South ,and have been here 60 yrs,as did my parents.grandparents,and great grandparents..and further than that...References to black people liking watermelon and fried chicken have nothing to do with thievery.... Do you know why Southerners of all races eat turnip greens?? Regards,p1976
