Surely would, but then the price would be much, much higher as surely Syscomm knows the value of whatever technology it has developed with Q. This makes me think that Syscomm is a minor player. According to Q's somewhat cryptic announcement, Syscomm's involvement is limited to basestation equipment.

I could naturally be wrong.

Did you notice that GSM/1x supports DO? I don't think that this point has been emphasized enough in the discussion. A real honest-to-goodness WCDMA killer.

Hyundai Syscomm, Inc. announced on June 17 that it would start developing 'GSM 1x' technology with Qualcomm Incorporated. GSM 1x is a solution improving the data capacity and the efficiency of spectrum by introducing cdma2000 1x equipment in the existing GSM network environment.

The solution can send data at the speed of up to 2.4Mbps and support cdma2000 1x EVDO service. In particular, it enables GSM service providers to offer 3G services with less investment, which would give a big boost to operators who have been unable to change the existing service to asynchronous 3G service WCDMA due to a burdensome investment cost.

Hyundai Syscomm will cooperate with Qualcomm to develop GSM 1x and take charge of the development of equipment for base stations. The company said that it successfully completed an interoperability test based on '3GPP2 IOSv4.1' in cooperation with Winphoria Networks which is developing GSM 1x MSN(Mobile Switching Node). "We expect GSM service providers to have a keen interest in GSM 1x," said President Park Hang-gu. "We will be able to secure a foothold for selling CDMA 2000 1x equipment to GSM operators in Europe, Asia, and North America."
