Graystone, I'm now working my way through the 150 or so messages that were posted today...
Just so we're on the same page, the reason why I consider information passed on in a phone call equally "official" to a press release is because all correspondence from a company is potentially actionable. In other words, if the company tells me and me alone a lie, I have as much right to sue them as if I read the same thing in a press release. Right?
This melds nicely into the second point you raised about disinformation and misinformation. As far as I'm concerned, since none of us are under oath or have a fiduciary responsibility to tell the truth, everything is really just plain old information. We, the SI members, then make our own decisions about what to believe. Speaking for myself, I base what I believe on my trust of who is saying it. And, like you I hope, no matter what is said, I feel that ultimately the truth will always out.
