Microsoft, Intuit, and Antitrust: This is my last comment, Reg and Alan are welcome to the final word if they want; I'd guess no one cares.
I orignally commented here because Sal and Reg were claiming that MSFT/INTU was blocked because MSFT was going to use INTU to go into online banking;
I just wanted to point out what I considered a more straightforward explanation, that the merger increased MSFT's power in the area of PC applications, an area where they were already dominant.
Reg has gone on at length about how if Corel ended up with Money they would be competitive; if Reg really believes that Corel is competitive with MSFT maybe he should post a spreadsheet over on the COSFF group; they could use some cheering up around now.
And if Reg and Alan think the antitrust laws should be repealed, they should petition their congressmen.
Alan has also posted the view, with Reg cheering him on, that "What's good for Microsoft is good for the United States", and that DOJ should get with the program.
He's entitled to that view, and it may be common sense to him, but I don't think it carries a lot of weight legally.
After getting annoyed with the whole discussion I let slip a gratuitous dig at Microsoft, which was out of line;
Alan correctly called me on this, and I will respond in another post. Cheers, Dan. |
