Very few Americans support illegal spying once they get the facts.

Pay attention to how the question is asked. If you ask "Should the White House use warrantless surveillance on terrorists?" almost anyone would say yes, myself included, so long as it's very limited. But if they ask "Should the White House be allowed to spy on any American without a warrant and collect all personal information on them?" the vast majority would say no.

Also, if Bushies abused the NSA to spy on political opponents (like high-tech Nixons) they are in deep trouble. And I would hazard to guess they have abused that power. I have read several reports of Bushie feds spying on peace groups, vegetarians, reporters, the UN and more. So if they spied on them, why wouldn't they spy on John Kerry or the DNC? After all they did cheat to win the elections, and Kerry's campaign chief got his laptop stolen by a burly white man who broke into his car. Plus, the Diebold allegations are extremely troubling.
