Santiago, the recent posts about Luther's "On the Jews and Their Lies" were prompted by Emile's recommendation of that work as a valuable resource that all Christians should read to learn about Jews. In response to that recommendation, quotations from that work were posted by myself and Nancy Markoff to demonstrate the work's extreme bigotry. Other information was provided to show that Luther's work provided a source of intellectual, spiritual, and propaganda support for the Nazis as well as for present-day white supremacist and anti-Semitic bigots.
This is challenging "facts", Santiago. You've read passages from Luther's work which show that Luther called on Christians to burn Jew's homes, places of worship, and scriptures, to rob them of all their possessions, to deprive them of the right of any religious expression even to the point of forbidding them to use the word God.
This is enough information to make a judgment whether the work is 1) a call to violent action based on religious bigotry, or whether it is 2) a valuable resource which all Christians should read to learn about Jews and Judaism as Emile said.
If Emile is proven wrong about any of his facts about Judaism then I
will apologize for trusting him.
What else can one possibly do to prove Emile's recommendation of Luther's book was wrong?

Yes, Christians in Israel are a minority. They are outnumbered by Jews, Moslems, and the non-religious. I have more news for you. A majority of the world's population is not Christian. For example, most of the population of Malaysia is Moslem. Most of the population of Thailand is Buddhist. Should Christians be hostile to Malays or Thais as well? |
