So far, thankfully, the threat does not include RPGs and mortars. If it ever happens some of us know what to do.
Let's get back down to earth and reality oriented. The threat has all ready been identified by both you and us.
I feel for you a little bit, but only you can fix your problem. Banging on us because we are better equipped than you to protect our families is utter nonsense.
If you think your family needs the safety emanating from your pistol, but you are concerned that it is not enough, do this.
Man up and Gun up and get on with your life. I promise you this - Your and your family's fear level will drop like a rock once you own and know how to use a rifle and a shotgun.
You will learn your wife, kids, friends, and neighbors will have new found respect for you. Your well-armed neighbors will want you in their self defense pacts. You are not invited to participate now because you are not well enough equipped, and your attitude sucks.
Most of the rest if not all of the rest of us have already done that, and we are not looking for personal and family safety and security lectures from you.
You may also want to consider asking your local police for assistance in organizing a "Community Watch".
The Community Watch signs the police will give you are a stand-alone, great deterrent.
