Me - If you ever wanted any proof that the Gov't is totally incapable of doing almost anything efficiently or effectively see this. Then keep in mind that Obama is going to have a lot more Gov't, including more programs, plus more or [GASP!] total control over health care.

If 40,000 People Lose Their Job And Nobody Hears It….

Today the US Postal Service announced that it would layoff about 40,000 of the 685,000 people it currently employs. Here’s the part that really caught my eye:

<<< But despite what may happen, Pepper says customers will not feel the pain they’re going through. “The general public when it takes place won’t see any decrease in service.. They largely won’t know about it.” >>>

Look, I’m not one of those people that use the postal service as the prime example of just how bad the government runs things. I’ve had very few problems with them, and I really like the guys who deliver my mail both at home and at work, and in general I think the postal service does a pretty decent job considering the sheer volume of mail they have to sort and deliver on a daily basis, and I don’t like to see anyone lose their job.

But come on, if you can lay off 40,000 people and there won’t be any decrease in service why the hell did you need those people in the first place? Has anyone who runs the USPS (or any other government agency) ever bothered to ask themselves that question?
And I’d be willing to bet there’s a lot more fat that can be cut and still have the same level of service. I’d really like to see how much more efficent private industry would be with the USPS, and many other government services.
