Glenn Beck was overly sensitive and perhaps even paranoid.

I heard the line as joviality and fluff, but he heard "the white will embrace what's right" as whites "being called racist".

Lowery asked to "help us work for that day," a day when whites will be not just OK with inclusion ("stick around", etc.), but embrace it. The point of "embrace" was to fully accept and get beyond it.

I've had discussions about tolerance. Some people, me included, think that's what we needed and still need as a base for a solution in the Mideast. Others thought no, we need to get beyond tolerance, to acceptance.

That's the nuance that Lowery called for. If so, it was appropriate for a benediction; it's a stretch today.

Also Lowery is about 91. That's a generation older than Rev. Wright, who is still mired in the struggles of the past. It doesn't reflect how younger people, including Obama, look at the world or this country.
