"I read all that when I was just 12 years old. I understand what the author(s) was/were trying to convey and I rejected it as mystical, irrational, unsupportable tripe by the time I was 15."

Adolescent fixations are common in modern American culture. There are many, like yourself, who get stuck in the wisdom of their teens and never grow past those adolescent perceptions.

You remind me of Mark Twain's experience. In his teens,Twain left rural Missouri for the higher learning of the East. Like most teens, he quickly became infatuated with the mountains of knowledge and buzz words of campus life.
Returning to his fathers farm with a friend on his nineteenth birthday, the young student was embarrased by his fathers ignorance of the lastest college fads. Because of this painful experience, Twain vouched never to return to this primitive setting.
After ten years or so and a very successful career, Twain decided to break his promise and return for a visit. After a couple of days, he he was amazed at how much his father had grown in only ten years.
