Oracle stealing mkt-share from MSFT in the WinNT market....

Here is a release from WSJ. This combined with several releases
today should assure an upside for the stock in the coming 2 weeks.
If the Dow hits 6100 (and nasdaq does well too) as many expect, we could see the 50s soon.

Oracle Outpaces the Industry on Windows NT

Oracle Creates 150 Person Windows NT Sales Force and Focuses on Channels; IDC Figures Reveal a Market Share of 24.8% for Oracle on Windows NT in 1995

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corp. today announced the creation of a Windows NT sales force and a new focus on channel distribution for the Windows NT market in direct response to strong market acceptance of its Oracle7 database on the Windows NT platform.

According to an independent study by International Data Corporation (IDC), the market share of the Oracle7 database on Windows NT increased from 2.6 percent to 24.8 percent from 1994 to 1995, making Oracle the enterprise information software vendor with the strongest momentum in the Windows NT market.

Oracle's new Windows NT sales force will provide expert sales counsel for organizations running on Microsoft Windows NT. In addition, Oracle has been working with over 600 business partners to develop Oracle7-based products for the Windows NT operating system.

"Oracle's growth figures on Windows NT are truly impressive. When this growing strength is combined with Oracle's dominant position for Unix and Server Operating Environment database engines and database application development tools, it becomes clear that Oracle should be on the short list for developers of workgroup and enterprise-class solutions," said Dan Kusnetzky, research director, Client and Server Environments Program, International Data Corporation.

According to the IDC study which was published in May, Oracle increased its market share while the marketshare of Microsoft SQLServer decreased in the same time period. The study does not list any other database vendors as holding significant market share on Windows NT.

"Windows NT customers want a database solution that is fully integrated with their desktop and server environment. With Oracle, customers get ease of use coupled with industrial strength solutions, maximizing their investment in the Windows NT platform," said Shari Simon, Oracle vice president, NT Solution Sales. "Oracle has been providing superior information management software for nearly 20 years and delivers the best database for Windows NT. Our phenomenal growth in this market proves Oracle can meet the needs of its customers and partners."

"We are looking at Oracle7 for Windows NT to utilize Oracle's performance and ease-of-use in our distributed processing environment," said Charles Kirk, chief information officer, Fruit of the Loom. "Oracle7 on Windows NT will help us maximize our operating system investment through powerful and easy-to- use information management features and functionality."

Oracle7 is also priced competitively against Microsoft SQL Server on Windows NT, offering customers superior technology coupled with total cost of ownership advantages. In addition, Oracle offers independent software developers programs such as the Oracle Developer Program and Oracle Value Service to ensure they are successful with Oracle in the Windows NT market.
