There is some indication that fecal-oral transmission is possible. If this is really the case, containment will be extremely difficult in large parts of the world. For us it won't be a major problem since we have a reasonably good water supply. But that is not the case everywhere.....

I'm convinced that we will have a pandemic with a significant mortality rate within the next decade. Just look at the water problems and the population density we are facing.

Of course, compared to the number of people who are currently being poisoned by arsenic, neither SARS nor the Spanish Flu look too bad.... Nature has a public section on some of these issues. I really wonder what will happen if SARS reaches a place like Bangladesh.
