That article I posted mentioned that it was the *Republicans* threatening to let the 'USA PATRIOT ACT' expire if Ashcroft persists in his misguided attempt to stonewall constitutionally mandated Congressional oversight :)

In a fight between the INSTITUTIONS of the Executive and the Congress... it really matters not what political parties occupy each - it's a turf battle over power, and their respective views of the Constitution.

If oversight is stonewalled long enough, the issue would work it's way into the federal courts.
