I'm an AOL bear, but I don't see too much in it. Several other reputable companies have also signed up with AOL as part of their marketing machine.

To all, exerpt from WSJ:

The attorneys general of 37 states, led by Dennis Vacco of New York and Jim Ryan of Illinois, have virtually
given up policing other forms of criminal activity to concentrate on AOL.

Mr. Case can be accused of many things. Until last year, he amortized the cost of spewing tens of millions of free diskettes
across the land, thereby supposedly fooling the rubes of Wall Street into thinking AOL was profitable so they'd keep
pouring money in.

He let the system crash last August, depriving AOLers of e-mail for 19 hours and persuading the Los Angeles Times that
government regulation was urgently needed.

He rounded up his customers' bills to the next minute, a practice so diabolical that only every other phone company does it.

But any lingering doubt that Steve Case is a ruthless desperado was wiped away last December, when he switched AOL's
membership to a flat rate of $19.95 per month. The resultant symphony of busy signals gave birth to a whole new
interpretation of our Judeo-Christian-Muslim-Buddhist-Animist ethic, against which Mr. Case has been judged and found
sorely wanting.

The title was that it may be more ethical for Mr. Case to declare bankruptcy.

PS, where did everyone go?
