Ney's corruption goes much deeper than a $100,000 5-star golfing trip to Scotland. Although that was unethical because of the sheer cost of it, and because it had nothing to do with his state and his state's interests. It's also 500 times what a seat at a boxing match would cost. Reid has pledged not to accept any more comp boxing tickets, but as senator of Nevada, I would be surprised if he had to pay for casino events anyway. I see it as akin to Kerry going to a Red Sox game or Frist going to a Tennessee Titans game. Nothing wrong there. But if the casino gave Reid chips or something, that would be illegal. The real corruption is the big corporate-industrial legislation stuff, deregulation, privatization, plus the corporate welfare and pork barrel spending, much of which was bought and paid for by the rightwing congress's corporate pals. Abramoff's Indian casino deal and Marianas Island deals are good examples, though even that is tiny compared to what the GOP has done in allowing big energy and big healthcare to double prices on their watch, plus get tens of billions in unnecessary tax breaks and cash payouts. Or what the Bushies have done rewarding Halliburton.
