Article suggests that company is using its new model as a way to divert analysts' attention as it "unravels the mess it has created."
06:52 ET Computer Assoc (CA) 35.25: -- Update -- The NY Times article on Computer Associates reports that the company has used accounting tricks to systematically overstate its revenue and profits for years, citing more than a dozen former employees and independent industry analysts. Article states that CA's sales have fallen almost two-thirds over the past six months, which the company has attempted to cover up by presenting financial results in a way that confuses even the analysts who follow CA. Also reports that supplier IBM has accused company of overcharging for IBM products, resulting in IBM developing a rival product line.
06:46 ET Computer Assoc (CA) 35.25: Company to host a conference call at 8:30 ET to clarify "erroneous media reports" of company's financial position and new business model. CA is apparently responding to Sunday NY Times article questioning whether the company's growth was driven by accounting gimmicks.
