What should be the role of a good media ?

Here is my pathetic take on it
==============================
I think it should be gathering ALL facts for all major events happening.
Prioritize them in order of importance to the vast majority of audience. (for example a worldwide media has no business prioritizing news of 4 Israelis murdered over the news of 300+ Russians murdered unless the media's market is local to Israelis and targetted audience has interests in Israel. Rest of populace should not be showered with that kind of news ad nauseum)
Present the facts without committing sins of ommission, remission or otherwise slanting to somehow increase/decrease the importance of news event. (Facts and strictly Facts)
Editorial board needs to carefully weigh keeping its readers in mind. They need to have the guts to be able to criticize with impartiality and should mostly be "anti establishment". While credit may be due in important achievements, but they cannot afford a rah rah attitude.

Gotta rush.. but will keep adding to this.
