I had a recent encounter with Vantive that seems to reflect the state of their current organization and their usage of their own SFA product. As a former Siebel customer (in a previous job), this would have never happened.

At the end of 1998, my company selected Vantive as our strategic ERM vendor. Since then, we've been furiously implementing. We've ordered software, we've procured services, we're going to their user conference, we've met senior management -- we've done it all with these guys. Being the IT guy responsible for Vantive, one would think that I would appear as a contact in Vantive's enterprise SFA database -- or at minimum, my company should have appeared. Apparently not. I received a call (voicemail) from a Vantive telemarketer asking if I my company was interested in customer service software. She described Vantive's products at a high-level. She was sure I had never heard of Vantive, so she repeated the name of the company and even gave me the spelling of the company's name: V-a-n-t-i-v-e. I could only scratch my head in disbelief. I must admit, the message gave me a chuckle. I didn't return the phone call.
