Later, near the end of the war, my stepfather was involved in an operation in the Atlantic which intercepted a fleet of Nazi U-boats towing V-2 rockets on underwater sleds. The Navy referred to it as the sea version of the Battle of the Bulge.

American forces knew all about the German operation and where to intercept because of British intelligence (they of course having broken the German High Command encrypted codes years earlier).

The German plan was to launch rockets at New York and Washington, DC as part of a "terror attack".
