Nihontochicken,

The Browning Hi Power is a great classic gun. I shoot competitive and many people have high regard for them. The design is classic and attractive.

Probably as good a choice as any, with the proper ammo.

In the end, the actual gun is probably not as important as your nerve and ability under stress. I do not know of any way to practice or prepare for that. I think having a good understanding of your gun of choice and being comfortable enough with it to make it do its job without hesitation is probably the most important thing.

I'm a big fan of Sig and Glock. My Sig P-229 is the choice of the secret service and is designed to work under almost any conditions. It is fairly accurate at 10 meters too.

Of course I hope I never ever have to shoot anyone with it, but I live 4.4 miles from Detroit proper. Someone was shot (by the police fortunately) in 1982 in my parents home and it is a terrible thing for everyone.

Some people say the best gun for home self defense is a shotgun. I think that makes some sense too.

Good Shooting (targets hopefully <g>)
