METHUEN, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 16, 1999--MicroTouch Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MTSI), the world leader in touch-input solutions, today opened TouchStore.com, the first Internet-based electronic commerce site devoted exclusively to the sale of touchscreen monitors and related products.

TouchStore.com benefits first-time buyers and repeat customers by making it easy to purchase touch-enabled flat-panel displays and CRT monitors at a discount, using their Internet browser.

Initially, TouchStore.com is offering 24 models of MicroTouch-branded and IBM desktop monitors, all fully integrated with the customer's choice of either ClearTek 3000 capacitive or TouchTek5 resistive touchscreens. In concert with its new Monitor Alliance Program, MicroTouch will continue to add touch-enabled monitors from other OEM partners to the TouchStore.com product line-up.

For MicroTouch, TouchStore.com adds a new dimension to its primary distribution channels. By handling smaller-quantity transactions electronically, TouchStore.com allows MicroTouch direct salespeople to focus more on OEM partners and higher-volume opportunities.

"The rising popularity of touch for mainstream computer applications and the growing trend toward Internet-based business-to-business transactions are compelling reasons for MicroTouch to lead the touchscreen industry into electronic commerce," said Janet Muto, MicroTouch vice president of worldwide marketing.

"TouchStore.com is a convenient, alternate point-of-contact for customers to choose the right touch solution for their applications from the widest array of touch-enabled products on the market. It's another example of our commitment to be the company that our customers demand as their partner," Muto said.

Touchscreen monitors may be ordered in quantities of up to 25, with discounts of up to three percent off standard list prices. MicroTouch will honor most major credit cards. Product purchases and deliveries will be limited to U.S. customers during the first phase of TouchStore.com development.

"Early on, we expect mostly individual end-users and systems integrators serving the U.S. small business and education markets to take advantage of the system," said Muto. "During 1999, we will expand TouchStore.com with additional products, including kiosk touch displays, off-the-shelf kiosk enclosures, touch sensor kits, and design services, as well as the international markets we serve."
