I don't follow the industry closely, so I can't comment on the relative merits of XM versus Sirius. However, I can say that when I purchased a new car a year ago, one of the salesmen at the dealership pushed Sirius very hard despite the fact I had already picked XM. In fact, he pushed Sirius so hard it actually turned me against Sirius.

This could well be a result of some form of "spiff" or commission paid on the activation. I don't know if they do this at dealerships; but retailers who activate an XM or Sirius receiver receive a commission per activation. When sales are slow, the amounts of the commissions increase. Whether they pay these to car salesmen, I don't know, but that could explain the behavior.
