SKYM + MSFT
PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 16, 1998--SkyMall Inc. (Nasdaq:SKYM) Wednesday announced partnerships with a variety of Internet sites to increase the number of customers exposed to SkyMall's unique products. SkyMall created an "e-tail" program (electronic retailing) to expand on its successful in-flight catalog and to add a variety of products and services online by partnering with various Internet sites. Visitors to SkyMall's partner Web sites may go directly to the SkyMall site for shopping services, and after shopping, customers are directed back exclusively to the site from which they began. SkyMall has named this process the Closed Commerce Loop(tm). Using the appeal of the Closed Commerce Loop, SkyMall's Internet growth strategy is based on expanded visibility of the SkyMall brand name online, in conjunction with private-labeling opportunities the company recently announced. SkyMall's online sales are growing and now account for approximately 5 percent of revenues. Using the Closed Commerce Loop concept, SkyMall is aggressively pursuing additional sites. Currently, SkyMall is available through Chicken Soup for the Soul(R), the best-selling book series with more than 30 million copies sold and translated in 34 languages. Among its many unique characteristics, Chicken Soup for the Soul features "Chicken Soup for the Soul Daily Story," which sends more than 375,000 subscribers daily messages via e-mail. SkyMall is featured on this daily communication with quick, one-click access to the SkyMall shopping page. Other partners include airlines; Microsoft Shopping Plaza, an online mall offering products and services from a variety of major vendors; and TheTrip.com, a leading travel site through which customers can purchase airline tickets and make travel arrangements. |
