Yaacov - twister was excited by the IBM press around the sales numbers for the IBM S80 "condor" machine as published by IDC. IBM was later forced to revise their statement, as IDC did not equate the S80 with the UE10000.

Big products with low volume, like the UE10000, S80, and others, do not appear overnight, and their acceptance into enterprise accounts is more like the effect of global warming... it takes years to evaluate the effect. So far there is little reason to think that S80 sales have taken business from UE10000 or will do so any time soon.

There is no question that SUNW needs to continue execution on its high end roadmap to maintain momentum in high end accounts against the S80 and also the upcoming Alpha "wildfire". They also need to get the operating system features to fully exploit their architecture. Both of those things should happen in summer of 2000, plenty soon enough to maintain SUNW's high end position IMO...
