Slightly OT but still important:

Justice Hires Help For Microsoft Remedies

The U.S. Department of Justice said Thursday it has retained
a New York investment advisor to help outline possible
remedies in the Microsoft antitrust case.

Greenhill & Co. LLC will assist the Justice Department "in
analyzing financial aspects of the full range of potential
remedies in U.S. vs. Microsoft," according to a statement
issued by the department. Greenhill & Co., founded in 1996,
provides strategy consulting, merger and acquisition advice,
and real estate banking services. Justice, along with 19
states, has charged Microsoft with limiting competition and
harming consumers through its monopoly power.

A Justice Department spokesman said the retention of
Greenhill would have no bearing on whether the case will be
resolved in court or through mediation, according to wire
reports. Earlier this week, representatives of Microsoft and
the government met in Chicago for the first session in a
mediation process ordered by Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson,
who is presiding over the case. Jackson has found that
Microsoft used monopoly power to injure consumers and
competitors, but has not yet issued a ruling on whether the
company violated antitrust laws.

The Justice Department said Greenhill's advice could be
factored into proposed remedies that address Microsoft's
behavior in the software market. Among the remedies under
discussion are changing the software company's
organizational structure. - Aaron Ricadela
