To All: Implications of the New HP Software Strategy Charles, when I heard about HP's Java announcement I figured they were cooking up something with VxWorks, and the story you cited confirms it. Furthermore, HP plans to move into software in a BIG way... HP Unveils Electronic World Strategy -- Company Drives Pervasive Use of Internet Among Businesses and Consumers Envisions Internet as Next Utility (March 11): biz.yahoo.com Note in particular the following excerpt from the above: "In June of 1997, HP created a new organization to focus entirely on software, with the goal of participating only in those areas in which HP could make a unique technology contribution that would enable HP to become one of the top three suppliers in that area." So what are the implications for WIND? 1) HP is using VxWorks as a key component in its new strategy. 2) HP is enjoying rapid success in getting major technology companies to buy into its new software products. 3) WIND has fantastic products but must compete against major players with far more capital and prestige. My conclusion: Perhaps Hewlett-Packard should acquire WIND. What say you all?
