Ray,

I believe that I read last week that they are using Pair Gain's "Megabit Modem 768," and their actual mode is 768 kbps in each direction, for symmetrical purposes. This device can be set up to run at various speeds, as a trade-off function vis a vis distances and the condition of the wire facilities. ATU is offering of 384 (and lower if necessary) through 768 kbps at the moment, but not 1.5 both ways. If anyone knows differently, please advise.

PAIR GAIN MEGABIT MODEM 768 = pairgain.com

Just as an observation on the selection of HDSL versus anything else at the moment: I do believe that ATU is targeting the SOHO and LAN internetworking (LAN to LAN) markets, and HDSL makes more sense for these two segments. Remote servers and distributed c/s functions will not tolerate the lower upstream crawls of 64 kbps characteristic of Class 1 ADSL, IMO. Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Frank
