FWIW your source re: Yamaha compared to Read Rite seems to confirm what I continue to hear. I also hear IBM and TDK/SAE are way out front as well. Laggards include SEG, APM, RDRT, and MKE's internal operation (formerly QNTM's). Unfortunately I do not have any details as to specific reasons for the variance. Each process is different.
