Re: Cable Modem Phone Systems

Thread,
You have to read these announcements carefully to figure out exactly what they say. I thought back in October that AT&T already agreed to purchase $900 worth of telephony equipment from Arris Interactive. But obviously I didn't read that release carefully enough. It wasn't even AT&T at that time. It was TCI. And iIt was simply stating, "potential," orders.

Luckily it appears to be actually happening now. Below (if I'm reading it correctly) it states there is a firm order for $100 million. So ANTC and NT are off to a good start. BTW, Northern Telecom announced the news below.

It appears between NT/BAY/ANTC, they have everything a MSO needs to upgrade their cable plant to offer two-way HFC broadband services, including phone service.

Arris Interactive (Nortel Networks/ANTEC joint venture) to Deliver Cable Telephony Systems to Tele-Communications, Inc.

-- Further Progress Towards Previously Announced Potential US$900 million deal for Arris Interactive's Cornerstone Cable Telephony Systems --

BOSTON Feb. 25 - Nortel Networks today announced that Tele-Communications, Inc. has indicated that it intends to purchase more than US$50 million of Cornerstone cable telephony communications systems from ANTEC and Arris. In light of TCI's proposed merger, it is expected that the purchases will be made under an existing supply agreement potentially worth up to US$900 million announced by ANTEC, Arris Interactive and Nortel Networks on October 28, 1998. This would bring the total equipment orders under that supply agreement to more than US$100 million…….
