Yes you've got the basic concept (hopefully others have responded to this too)

But if you don't want to face that net loss you can buy back calls and roll them out so as not to take short term loss, while waiting for stock to recover--and what Tom did with Dell wastake the cash from that rollout and buy more shares on the cheap and cover those as well
